PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
HPMC empty hard capsule is made of raw material HPMC and appropriate excipients. Pure botanical excellently satisfy the drug requirements of vegetarians and people with special beliefs. Its characteristics: low moisture and high tenacity, meet the filling demand of high moisture drugs, especially filling traditional Chinese medicine. It’s also a kind of inert material, avoid drug having cross-linking reaction or maillard reaction, etc.
1.Overview of Hypromellose Cellulose
Hypromellose cellulose or HPMC is a white odorless powder.
As a nonionic cellulose ether, HPMC is made from highly-purified cottonseed hull or food fibers. The manufacturing process of HPMC is fully automated, the end products meet USP and EP requirements.
HPMC is solely plant based and free of animal products elements.
2.Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) hollow capsule characteristics and application
HPMC is widely used in food and pharmaceutical industry as an additive, and are included in pharmacopoeia monographs of many countries; HPMC are approved by FDA and EMA as food additive for direct of indirect applications; HPMC is listed in GRAS monographs GRN 000213.
WHO’S JECFA data base has no limits on the amount of HPMC intake. Ministry of health of China approved HPMC as food additives and thickener (Numbers 20) in 1997 for all food applications. We have researched many years to formulate our own composition of HPMC capsules. We also used our unique manufacturing technologies that are obtained through many years of experiments and are very different from traditional gelatin capsule manufacturing process.
HPMC hollow capsules are vegetarian, and are KOSHER and HALAL certified. It is a perfect choice for companies whose customers have diversified religion requirements. In addition, HPMC hollow capsules still have following unique properties:
*Low moisture content. HPMC capsules contains 60% less moisture than gelatin capsules, well suited for moisture sensitive drugs, HPMC capsules have a low moisture content level (5%-6% at 50% R.H.) and will not retain elevated moisture levels after exposure to highly humid conditions.
*No risk of capsules cross linking. To assess cross-linking effect HPMC capsules were pre-filled with dillient containing 40 ppm of formaldehyde (a known cross-linking agent) and stored for three months. These test capsules were then emptied and re-filled with acetaminophen and tested according to the USP monograph. Test results indicated that the dissolution of the test capsules matched those not exposed to formaldehyde.
*Excellent for modified release coatings. The shell texture of HPMC capsules enables good adhesion and coating uniformity using aqueous systems.
*Flexibility under extreme storage condition. HPMC capsules stored under various controllable humidity conditions, with subsequent varying levels of moisture content, were tested for brittleness and breakage. Test results indicate stable, robust performance, even at low moisture levels.
*Machinability. Billions of Top Health capsules have been successfully filled on high speed encapsulation machines using standard change parts.
